Orono tops Brewer in Unified Basketball season opener

BREWER - Wednesday afternoon at Brewer High School, the visiting Orono Red Riots picked up a 73-66 win over the host Brewer Witches in a mutual season opener for the Unified Basketball program for the 2020 season.

Glenburn upsets No. 1 Holbrook for EMBL semifinal victory

GLENBURN - For the second time in two weeks, the No. 5 Glenburn Chargers picked up a victory over a higher seed team (defeated No. 4 Brewer on January 18) to earn the right to head to Championship Saturday after a 44-37 win over No. 1 Holbrook in the Eastern Maine Basketball League 5/6B girls semifinal game.

Lane's closing seconds basket sends Hermon 5/6 girls to EMBL Championship

GLENBURN - Sunday afternoon at the Glenburn School, Mikelle Lane scored in the closing seconds of the game to give the Hermon Hawks a 46-45 victory over the Eastern Elite in an Eastern Maine Basketball League semifinal game in the 5/6 B girls division. Both teams were classified as A/B teams, as they played in the 5/6A division but were dropped down to the 5/6B division for the playoffs.

Bangor hockey shoots past So. Portland in overtime

BANGOR – The Bangor high school hockey team hosted So. Portland/Freeport/Wayneflete Friday night at Sawyer Arena. From the first face-off, this was a fast-paced, physical, demanding game that was played by two relatively equal teams.

Hermon 5/6 girls cruise past Hampden in "B" quarterfinal contest

BREWER - Saturday morning at Brewer High School, the Hampden 5/6 "B" girls ran into a much stronger team as the Hermon "A/B" girls scored early and never relinquished their lead on their way to a 26-8 quarterfinal elimination game victory in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

Witches get their revenge for an earlier loss to Lawrence

BREWER – Earlier in the season the Brewer coaches and players knew they should not have lost at Lawrence. Friday night while the Brewer varsity boys had the Bulldogs in the house they came out strong, stayed strong for 32 minutes and played like a well-oiled machine to claim the 57-46 win. It was the fifth win in a row.

Brewer JV boys roll past visiting Lawrence

BREWER – The Brewer junior varsity boys basketball team was on fire Friday night as they rolled past Lawrence of Fairfield outscoring the visitors every quarter on the way to a solid 67-47 victory.

Lawrence freshmen too much for Brewer boys first team

BREWER – Brewer's first team hosted the opening game of the night against visiting Lawrence of Fairfield falling 49-37 after a disappointing second quarter that put them in a hole they could not get out of.

Brewer boys basketball train keeps a rolling

ROCKPORT – The Brewer boys varsity train rolled into Rockport Wednesday evening for a Class A matchup with Camden Hills. The Witches got to celebrate the 82-67 win on the train ride home. This was the third straight and fifth of the last six they have won.

Wagner girls "B" team doubles up Chargers in 4th quarter for win

GLENBURN - The Samuel L. Wagner of Winterport girls "B" level team made it a fourth quarter team effort as they pulled away from the Glenburn Chargers for a 32-21 victory in a middle school "B" team match up at the Glenburn School Tuesday night.

Glenburn "B" team boys hold off major Wagner rally for win

GLENBURN - Tuesday afternoon at the Glenburn School, the Wagner boys nearly overcame a 15 point deficit to start the fourth quarter only to run out of time and fall to the home team Glenburn Chargers 26-24 in an exciting middle school "B" level basketball match up.

Mt. Blue gets showered with three's as Brewer boys explode

BREWER – The Brewer gym was loud and proud Monday afternoon as they are back to full steam with the return of Dylan Huff, and today they showed the visiting Mt. Blue team what that means going forward as the Witches exploded for 88 points including 10 3-pointers for the 88-53 win.

BREWER – The 7-8th grade Brewer girls played as a team Saturday in their Eastern Maine Basketball League playoff win over Glenburn, 55-23.

Glenburn 5th-6th grade girls eliminate Brewer in EMBL play

BREWER – After a long travel ball season, the playoffs are underway for the Eastern Maine Basketball League and Sunday the Glenburn girls 5-6th grade B team slipped past the Brewer girls late in the game for the 41-35 win.

Hampden 5/6 "B" girls cruise past Hermon in EMBBL playoff matchup

HAMPDEN - Saturday afternoon at Reeds Brook School in Hampden, the Hampden 5/6 "B" girls proved to be to much for the Hermon Hawks, as the young Broncos set the tone early and cruised to a 30-12 victory over the Jr. Hawks in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

Bangor boys and girls win indoor track meet at Orono

ORONO – The Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet number 5c was held at The New Balance Field House at the University of Maine Field House Friday night with the Bangor High School girls and boys taking first place.

Hampden boys barely escape with win over Brewer

HAMPDEN – The Hampden boys basketball season is off to a great start, there is no denying that fact. They entered the night undefeated at 10-0, having had one game where the win was by less than double figures and that was a win against Class AA Bangor.

Hampden girls flex their muscle to dominate Brewer

HAMPDEN – The Hampden girls basketball team was in a not in my house mind set Saturday night as they hosted the struggling Brewer girls jumping out to a hot start and never slowing down on either side of the court leading to a very lopsided 58-15 win for the Broncos.

Davis, Brown lead Witches 1st team to victory over Hampden

BREWER - Aiden Brewer and Ben Brown combined for 31 points on Saturday morning as the Brewer Witches 1st team picked up a 45-31 win over the Hampden academy freshman boys at Brewer High school.

Bangor hockey too much for Brewer on this night

ORONO – The ice rink at the University of Maine, The Alfond, may not have been packed to capacity, however, it had a good size crowd of loud students and adults that supported their teams in a fast-paced, hard-hitting, high school hockey game.

Messalonskee JV boys hold off a tough Brewer team

BREWER – The Brewer junior varsity boys hosted Messalonskee Thursday and after falling behind early, fight as they may, they could not close the gap leaving them with a 47-42 loss.

BREWER – The Brewer boys varsity basketball team went into the game knowing this was a test they had to pass. With #2 Messalonskee coming into town the Witches knew what each player had to do. They had lost to the Eagles a couple of weeks ago in Oakland and fully intended to turn that game score around.

Wiles, Westrich power Glenburn girls to victory over Bobcats

GLENBURN - Lucy Wiles and Emma Westrich each scored in double digits combining for 29 points as the Glenburn Chargers over powered the less talented Caravel Bobcats for a 48-9 middle school girls basketball win Tuesday night at the Glenburn School.

Bobcats second half dominance leads to win over Glenburn

GLENBURN - Tuesday afternoon at the Glenburn School, the Caravel Bobcats rallied in the second half to pull out a 48-35 win over the Glenburn Chargers in a boys middle school basketball contest.

Brewer girls get even with Nokomis at home.

BREWER – The Brewer girls opened the season against Nokomis of Newport and lost by one point, 39-38. Tuesday night they hosted the Warriors where Grace Robertson and Kenzie Dore led the Witches to a 44-37 win over the Warriors.

NEWPORT – The Brewer boys basketball teams traveled to Nokomis High School for a matchup that finished with the Witches taking home a lopsided 67-33 win.

Brewer 7-8th Travel falls to Houlton

BREWER  – The Eastern Maine Basketball League games at Brewer High School today included a battle between Brewer and Houlton 7-8th grade girls with Houlton pulling a surprising come from behind 43-40 win.

Lausier, Broncos to much for Erskine boys varsity

HAMPDEN - Two teams headed in opposite directions took to the hardwood inside the Stable at Hampden Academy on Saturday afternoon, and the Broncos came away with a very strong 81-52 dominating win over the Erskine Academy Eagles.

Closing seconds free throws lead to Broncos JV boys win over Erskine

HAMPDEN - The Hampden Academy JV boys scored 59 points in their game, but it took a few free throws in the closing seconds of the game to give the Broncos a 59-55 win over the Erskine Academy Eagles at The Stable inside Hampden Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Butterfield lifts Broncos to win over Erskine freshman boys

Lawrence with a dominating win over the Brewer varsity girls

BREWER – The Brewer varsity girls got off to a strong start in this game. A couple of quick three's and they were up 6-2. At the end of the first-quarter Brewer was up 14-12. With a little over 3-minutes to play in the second, the Witches were up 16-12 when things fell apart.
