Brewer led 24-11 after the first quarter, and 48-15 at the halftime. The scoring settled down in the second half with Brewer extending its lead to 57-22 as they went into the final stanza.
Three Brewer players scored in double figures led by Aaron Newcombe with 20 points; Brady Saunders 15; and Colby Smith 12. Other scorers were, Trevor Pearson and Ryder Goodwin seven each; Kyle Goodrich five; and Gavin Carr one.
The Witches went 17-of-26 (65 percent) from behind the foul line. They knocked down eight 3-pointers in the game, four from Newcombe, two from Saunders, and one each from Smith and Pearson.
For Newport the freshman, Madden White lit up the scoreboard for 16 points; Cody Chretien and Keith Lilly six each. Cody Marquis three; and Donovan Kurt two.
The Warriors were 5-of-9 (56 percent) from the foul line and they hit four 3-pointers, two from Chretien, and one each from White and Marquis.
Brewer goes to 5-4 on the season at the halfway mark. This is a tough week for them after tonight they host Messalonskee on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday they will travel to Hampden Academy for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
Right now without all the scores in, Brewer sits at #5 on the Maine Principals Association Heal Points site. The top eight make the playoffs in Class A. Hampden Academy sits at the top of Class A North with an impressive 8-0 record while Messalonskee is at #2 at 8-1. Big games coming up for the Witches.
