After a tough first quarter that saw the Witches struggle just to find the basket. The second quarter was all Witches as they outscored the Eagles 22-9 to take a 36-21 lead into the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same for Brewer. Outscoring Messalonskee 23-12 in the third to extend their lead to 59-33. The Witches coasted through the final stanza again outscoring the Eagles 23-7 for the win.

The fact that after the first quarter the sky started raining 3-pointers for the Witches, 11 of them in fact.

Brewer boys remain undefeated with win over Mt. Blue (UPDATED with more STATS)

BREWER – The Brewer boys basketball program showed today why they are in first place in the Heal Point standings in Class A North. Even when the game does not go as they would like, the Witches continue doing the basics and escape a second half shooing shortcoming for the 79-66 win.

Brewer boys basketball are the real deal, down Bangor 75-70

BANGOR – The Bangor boys basketball team tried it's best as Brewer just kept the pace up and while one team would get just a little lead it was not until late in the fourth quarter that Brewer was just too much and the fact they were 8-of-8 from the foul line and 14-of-14 in the second half proved to be costly for the Rams.

A time out with just over a minute in the game results in an easy layup for the Witches to seal the game. Brewer won 75-70. (Photo by Ron Hawkes)

Bangor spoils Brewer season opener at Penobscot Ice Arena

BREWER – The Brewer hockey program hosted the Bangor Rams in a season opening ice hockey match up at PIA in Brewer falling 5-1. The outcome was not what they hoped for to start the season as a motivated Bangor team came out playing to prove their season opening loss to Edward Little was not what to expect from this team this season.

In the end Bangor set the tone for its future games. Brewer is a good team, they were just not quite ready for the play of the Rams in this one.

Bangor opened the scoring 1:22 seconds into the game with a goal from Issac Bonenfant, assisted by Michael Moscone and Miles Randall.

The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Randall with an assist from Michael McLean.

At 8:46 in the second period the Witches scored their lone goal of the game that was made by Brady Barker with an assist from Cade McKenney.

With the score 2-1 Bangor went to work to make up that goal and at 10:03 into the period Cameron Legassie buried a shot into the back of the net with an assist from Cole Neale giving the Rams a 2-point lead again.

Bangor lit the board twice more in the final third period.  Randall scored his second goal 7:25 into the period with a beautiful pass in from Cooper Ireland. At 10:39 Ireland was able to follow up the assist with an unassisted goal of his own for the final score of the game.

Bangor had Baxter Cole in goal for the win to move Bangor to 1-1 on the season. Brewer's keeper was Ethan Hanscom who despite giving up five goals, kept many more out of the goal with some very good defense.

Bangor will head south to So. Portland for their next match-up Saturday, Dec. 18 ,while Brewer will host another home game, this on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Penobscot Ice Arena, will be against Camden Hills of Rockport.
