Lausier, Broncos to much for Erskine boys varsity

HAMPDEN - Two teams headed in opposite directions took to the hardwood inside the Stable at Hampden Academy on Saturday afternoon, and the Broncos came away with a very strong 81-52 dominating win over the Erskine Academy Eagles.

As he has done all season long, Bryce Lausier scored 15 points in the opening quarter to set the tone of the game. The Broncos led 11-0 just over two minutes into the game, and were on top 18-0 before the Eagles found the inside of the net for the first time in the game. The Broncos closed out the opening period with a 25-4 lead.

The Broncos out scored Erskine 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 45-15 lead into the half time break. The third period was much of the same as the first half as Hampden out scored the Eagles 23-20 for a 68-35 lead after three quarters. Hampden head Coach Russ Bartlett took advantage of the big lead and got his bench a great deal of playing time, as starters Lausier and Mikey Raye sat out the fourth period. Erskine finally had a chance to cut into the Broncos lead, bit only slightly as the Eagles edged Hampden 17-13 in the closing period.

Mikey Raye added seven points, younger brother Andy Raye had six points, and Landen Gabric had five points. Logan Tribou and Aidan Kristal each scored three points, and Alex Thomas chipped in with two points.

The Broncos had six 3-point baskets, two by Lausier and one each from A. Raye, Tribou, Gabric, and Kristal. They went 17-for-23 (74 percent) from the free throw line.
