Hermon 5/6 girls cruise past Hampden in "B" quarterfinal contest

BREWER - Saturday morning at Brewer High School, the Hampden 5/6 "B" girls ran into a much stronger team as the Hermon "A/B" girls scored early and never relinquished their lead on their way to a 26-8 quarterfinal elimination game victory in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

Hermon jumped out to a 10-0 lead with 8:26 left in the opening half and never looked back. Hampden scored their first basket with just under two minutes remaining in the half. The score at the buzzer ending the first half found the Hawks on top with a commanding 16-4 lead.

The Hawks started the second half with a 6-2 run to pull out to a 22-6 lead with 10 minutes left in the game. Scoring was at a minimum the rest of the way, as the Hawks out scored the Broncos 4-2 for the final 26-8 win.

Kass Lebel scored a game high 12 points to lead the Hawks in scoring. Mikelle Lane added six points, and Sabree Thomas had four. Rebecca Balmas and Abi Dubois each scored two points.

Both teams were extremely ineffective from the free throw line, as they combined to go 0-for-18 for the game. Hermon went 0-for-8, while Hampden was 0-for-10.

Hermon plays in a semifinal game at 2:45 on Sunday, January 26 at the Glenburn School.
