Lawrence freshmen too much for Brewer boys first team

BREWER – Brewer's first team hosted the opening game of the night against visiting Lawrence of Fairfield falling 49-37 after a disappointing second quarter that put them in a hole they could not get out of.

Brewer took a 12-10 first-quarter lead, but scoring became a challenge for the Witches as they were outscored 14-2 by Lawrence to give them a 24-14 half time advantage. Brewer played well in the second half outscoring the Bulldogs 10-9 giving Lawrence a 33-24 lead heading into the final stanza where Lawrence was led by Parker Higgins with 12 points in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs the win.


Scoring for Brewer was Aiden Davis with a team-high 13 points; Andrew Hodgins 10; Titus Philbrick six; Ben Brown four; Blake Gonzales three; and Tanner Butterfield one.

The Witches hit 7-of-17 (41 percent) from the foul line. They had two 3-point baskets, both from Davis.

For Lawrence, Higgins had a game-high 20 points; Connor Nutting 18; Ben Ryder and Hunter Lee four each; Alex Regalado two; and Lucas Campbell one.

The Bulldogs were 8-of-12 (67 percent) from the charity stripe. They knocked down three 3-pointers, all from Nutting.
