Messalonskee JV boys hold off a tough Brewer team

BREWER – The Brewer junior varsity boys hosted Messalonskee Thursday and after falling behind early, fight as they may, they could not close the gap leaving them with a 47-42 loss.

Messalonskee took a first-quarter 15-4 lead that was all the lead they would need to hold on. Brewer fought back to make it a 24-18 Eagles lead at halftime. The second half was almost even with Messalonskee outscoring Brewer 13-11 in the third quarter for a 37-29 lead going into the final stanza where Brewer outscored the Eagles but not enough to overcome the deficit.


Scoring for Brewer was,  Brock Flagg with 11 points; Lenox Cummings 10; Cameron Hughes nine; Ryder Goodwin five; Ryan Young four; Evan Nadeau three. 

Brewer was 7-of-12 (58 percent) from the foul line and they had five 3-pointers, two each from Flagg and Cummings, and one from Nadeau.

For Messalonskee, Andrew Mayo had a game-high 19 points; Reece Gardner 10; Evan Demott nine; Nick Woodside five; and Alden Doran four.

The Eagles were 5-of-6 (83 percent) from behind the charity stripe. They knocked down four 3-pointers, two from Gardner and one each from, Mayo and Woodside.
