Brewer girls get even with Nokomis at home.

BREWER – The Brewer girls opened the season against Nokomis of Newport and lost by one point, 39-38. Tuesday night they hosted the Warriors where Grace Robertson and Kenzie Dore led the Witches to a 44-37 win over the Warriors.

Brewer goes to 2-7 on the season while Nokomis falls to 4-4.

Brewer led after each quarter, 11-8, 19-15 and a slim two-point lead 24-22 after three quarters. In the final quarter, Brewer outscored the Warriors 20-15 to capture the victory.

Scoring for Brewer was Robertson and Dore with 14 points each. Robertson had four 3-pointers, two in the first quarter and one each in the second and third. Dore went a total of 9-of-9 from the foul line and seven of those in the fourth quarter where she led the team to the win with nine of her 14 points.

Other scorers for the witches were Riley Umel with six points; Brooke Merrow five; Kathyrn Austin four; and Kanessa Bishop one.

The team went a total of 17-of-23 (74 percent) from the foul line. They had five 3-pointers in all, the previously mentioned four from Robertson and one from Dore.

For Nokomis, Amanda King had 11 points; Camryn King nine; Maya Cooney seven; Brianna Townsend five; Allie Grozik four; and Alexys Mayhew one.

The Warriors were 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the foul line and they had two 3-pointers, one each from A. King and C. King.

The Brewer girls now go on a four-game on the road stretch of away games. They are away six of the nine second-half games.

Next up for the Witches will be Messalonskee at 6:30 p.m. in Oakland.
