Hampden girls flex their muscle to dominate Brewer

HAMPDEN – The Hampden girls basketball team was in a not in my house mind set Saturday night as they hosted the struggling Brewer girls jumping out to a hot start and never slowing down on either side of the court leading to a very lopsided 58-15 win for the Broncos.

The Broncos set the pace of the game in the first quarter as they opened with a 19-1 lead and exploded to a 32-7 half-time advantage. by the end of the third quarter, the Broncos had built a 46-10 lead and allowed both teams to get some players some playing time they normally may not get ending with the Broncos celebrating a dominating performance.

Hampden's Megan Deans torched the Witches for 10 points in the first quarter while Ayldia Brillant added seven while the Bronco defense and the fact they forgot to take the wrap off the basket on Brewer's side held them to a foul shot for their single point.

Things got a little better for the Witches in the second quarter scoring six points with three girls getting two each. However, Hampden kept pouring in the shots, this quarter led by Emma Haskell with five points including a 3-point basket.

The third and fourth quarters were a lot of in and out moves for many players as both coaches, for different reasons were looking to change things up. Brewer's Janessa Bishop came off the bench and ended the game with a team-high eight points.

Scoring for Hampden were Deans with 18 points; Haskell 12; Brillant 11; Amelia McLaughlin and Taya Archer four each; Camryn Neal three; and Taylor Gardner, Sydney Hodgdon, and Sam Bellerose two each.

The Broncos were 9-of-18 (50 percent) from the foul line. They had three 3-pointers, two from Haskell and one from A. McLaughlin.

For the Witches, Bishop had eight points; Jordon Doak, Kenzie Dore, and Riley Umel two each; and Brooke Morrow one.
