John Bapst slips past Hermon 9-8 in softball action Wednesday

BANGOR – The Crusaders picked up a Heal Point worthy win over Hermon, 9-8, Wednesday at the Union St Soccer and Softball complex.

With the win John Bapst goes to 6-6 on the season and sits in 10th place in the Heal Point Standings. Hermon falls to 6-4 and still sits in fourth place in the Heal Point Standings. 

This was a battle all the way for both teams. Visiting Hermon got on the scoreboard first with three runs top of the first. The Hawks added another in the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh falling just a run shy of the tie. John Bapst tied the game in the bottom of the second when they plated four runs. They scored one in the third, one in the fifth inning and the Crusaders scored another four to take the lead 9-7 and hold on for the win. 

At the plate for the Crusaders, J. Hagstrom (2 singles, 2 RBIs); M. Weirich (single, RBI); O. Rand (3 runs); L. Stelline (double, single, 2 runs, RBI); L. Weirich (double, 3 singles, 2 runs, 2 RBIs); S. Michaud (2 runs); and J. Wu (single).

In the circle A. Cross started for the Crusaders going 3.1 innings allowing three hits and six runs, only two earned, with five walks and three strikeouts. M. Weirich pitched the final 3.2 innings for the win, allowing three hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts. She also allowed a home run. 

For Hermon, Olivia Johnson (2 runs); Faith Coombs (3 singles, 2 runs, RBI); Lyndsee Reed (HR, 2 runs, RBI); Molly Simcox (single, RBI); Ava Dean (RBI); Charlotte Caron (run); Norra Idano (single); Makenna Nevells (RBI); and Ahrya Jelks (run).

Pitching for the Hawks were Braelynn Wilcox, the starter, who went 3.1 innings allowing six hits and five runs, four earned, with two walks and four strikeouts.  Reed pitch the rest of the game taking the loss going 2.2 innings allowing four hits and four runs, with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Next up for Hermon is Hampden Academy Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in Hampden.For John Bapst they are off until May 24, when they host Maine Central Institute for a 4 p.m. game time.
