Johnson, Leavitt lead Camden Hills JV Girls over Brewer

 BREWER – The Brewer JV girls hosted the opener against visiting Camden Hills of Rockport and were handed a 43-33 loss by the visitors.

Camden Hills stifled the Witches in the first three quarters with a very good full court press. Leading the first quarter 12-6, the Windjammers added to that with a 10-2 second quarter for the 22-8 halftime lead.  The third quarter was more of the same with a 13-7 Camden Hills quarter to take a 35-15 lead into the final stanza where Brewer came alive, however was a little too much to overcome despite outscoring Camden 17-8 for the 43-32 win for the Windjammers.

Scoring for Camden Hills were, Amelia Johnson and Hannah Leavitt with 10 points each; Jaden Johnson seven; Leah Snyder six; Isabella Ward four; and Kristen Jones, Georgia Heitzman, and Rose Tohanczyn two each.

The Windjammers were 5-of-11 (45 percent) from the foul line and they knocked down four 3-pointers,  two from A. Johnson, and one each from Leavitt and J. Johnson.

For Brewer, Averi Nichols had a team high 10 points; Olivia Melvin had eight; Ava Zawadzki and Brooklyn Fick four each; Gabrielle Roberts three; Kathleen Brydges two; and Hannah Snowdeal one. 

The Witches hit just 7-of-15 (39 percent) from the charity stripe and they had one 3-pointer from Melvin.

Brewer will host Skowhegan Friday, Feb. 4 and Camden Hills will be on the road the same day to visit Gardiner.
