GLENBURN - Saturday morning the Glenburn Rec kicked off their annual basketball tournaments with the 5/6 girls getting things going at the Glenburn Community School. This weekend, February 19-20, consisted of six teams split into two pools. The teams in Pool A are Hampden, Biddeford, and Katahdin. Pool B teams are MDI, Houlton, and Gardiner.
Saturday is pool play, and Sunday will be the Single Elimination Round. Today, I covered the first four of the seven scheduled games for the day. Tomorrow I will cover all three elimination games.

Game 1 - Hampden vs Katahdin
Katahdin was no match for the girls from Hamden, as the Broncos opened with a 10-0 first quarter and never looked back.

Game 2 - MDI vs Gardiner
Gardiner led by five at the half and after the third quarter, but MDI could only pull to within four at the final buzzer.
Final Score Gardiner 24 MDI 20
Paige Ricker and Molly Takatsu led Gardiner in scoring with six points each. Addison Dowsland scored seven and Lilli Hanf had five to lead MDI in scoring.

Game 3 - Houlton vs MDI
MDI opened with a 12-4 first quarter lead and proved to be to much for the Houlton girls to handle.
Final Score MDI 50 Houlton 16
Lilli Hanf scored 15 points Avery Norwood had 10 to top MDI in scoring. Marissa Barton had six points and Amelya Matwyko scored four to lead Houlton in scoring.

Game 4 - Hampden vs Biddeford
This one was close at the half time break 11-10 Biddeford after Hampden rallied from seven points down after the first quarter. The Broncos were not able to stay with Biddeford over the second half.
Final Score Biddeford 31 Hampden 21
Natalia Silva led all scorers with 15 points and Gabby Silva had nine points to pace Biddeford. Mabel Hawkes scored seven and Ella Higgins added four points to top Hampden in scoring
