GLENBURN - Sunday morning at the Glenburn School, the Single Elimination Round of games got underway with two teams being eliminated and the Biddeford Tigers eventually being crowned the 2022 Glenburn Rec 5/6 girls tournament champion.

Semifinal Game 1 - MDI at Biddeford
This game was a close one, as the two teams tied at 6-6 through the opening quarter but Biddeford was able to get a little breathing room in the second and third quarters topping MDI 10-6 and 6-4 to take a 22-16 lead into the final period. The two teams tied at 5-5 in the fourth quarter, and Biddeford was able to come away with a 27-21 win.
Mia Mariello scored a game high nine points and Natalia Silva added eight points to lead Biddeford in scoring. Addison Dowsland scored eight points and Lilli Hanf had five points to pace MDI
Semifinal Game 2 - Hampden at Gardiner
Another close game early, and Gardiner scored at the buzzer in the opening quarter for a 2-0 lead. A 10-3 second quarter for Gardiner gave them a 12-3 half time lead. The Broncos came out in the third quarter more aggressive and played a faster pace and out score the Tigers 7-2 to make it a 14-10 Gardiner lead heading into the final stanza. The Tigers out scored Hampden 7-4 in the final period to pick up the 21-14 win. Hampden lost the game by seven points, but it was lost on the foul line. The Broncos went just 6-for-28 (21 percent) for the game, and just 2-for-13 in the fourth quarter.
Madison McMahon scored a game high six points to top Gardiner in scoring. Paige Ricker and Molly Takatsu each scored four points for the Tigers. Gracyn Haskell had five points and Mabel Hawkes four points to lead the Broncos in scoring.
Championship Game - Biddeford vs Gardiner
This game was pretty much over by half time, as a tired Gardiner team proved to be no match for a rested Biddeford team. Biddeford won the first semifinal game and got to rest while Gardiner had a tough battle with Hampden and then had to play a second straight game. Biddeford out scored Gardiner 15-8 in the first quarter of the battle of the Tigers. After a 16-4 second quarter, Biddeford was able to breathe pretty good as they took a 31-12 lead into the half time break. Just to let Gardiner know who was in charge, Biddeford continued to pile on points and take a 42-15 lead into the final quarter after out scoring Gardiner 11-3 in the period. Gardiner won the final quarter 6-4, but the damage had already been done as Biddeford picked up the 2022 Glenburn Rec 5/6 girls title with a 46-21 win over Gardiner.

Mia Mariello scored a game high 16 points to lead Biddeford in scoring. Natalia Silva and Gabby Silva each added eight points. Other scorers for Biddeford included Laken Mills and Olivia Hunter with four points each, and Lola Laverierre, Rachel Lagasse, and Alivia Aberle with two points each.
Biddeford had 4 four baskets from behind the arc, all by Mariello, and they went a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Madison McMahon scored six points to top Gardiner, and Audrey Gould added four points. Molly Takatsu scored three points. Anna Griffiths, Zoey Epperson, Paige Ricker, and Rachel Grant each chipped in with two points.
Gardner had no long range shots, and they went just 1-for-6 (17 percent) from the free throw line.
