HAMPDEN - The Glenburn 7th/8th grade B Division girls opened their Eastern Maine Basketball League season schedule on a positive note Sunday, traveling to Reeds Brook School in Hampden and coming away with a 38-16 win over the host Broncos. The Chargers begin the season 1-0 with the win, while the Broncos fall to 0-2 with the loss.

Glenburn, led by five points from Eve Wiles, jumped out to an early 10-2 lead with 3:30 left in the first quarter and never looked back. They would close the opening period with a 12-4 lead.
The Chargers put the game away in the second quarter as Wiles, Jillian Severance, and Emily Caulkins combined to score 14 points in the period while the defense slammed the door on the Broncos 14-0 in the quarter. Glenburn took a 26-4 lead into the half time break.
The two teams battled to a 12-12 score over the second half to close out the 22 point margin of victory for the Chargers.
Wiles scored a game high 11 points to lead Glenburn in scoring, and Severance added eight points. Also scoring for the Chargers was Andrea Crocker and Caulkins with six points each; Mallory Lausier with four points; Gwen Bushnell with two points, and Grace LaBree added one point. Glenburn had one 3-point basket by Wiles, and they went 1-for-7 from the free throw line.
Scoring for Hampden was Mia Curtis and Paige Richard with six points each, while Lily Philbrook and Abigail Gregor each chipped in with two points. The Broncos had no baskets from behind the arc and did not go to the foul line in the game, as Glenburn only committed seven fouls in the game.
