Hermon romps past Brewer in 7-8 grade Middle School football

HERMON - Wednesday afternoon at the Hermon Rec athletic facility, the 7th/8th grade football team put 40 points on the board as the Hawks cruised past the Brewer Witches 40-12 in middle school action.

Hermon needed just 43 seconds to put the first score on the board in the opening quarter, as quarterback Ethan Curtis connected with Dylan Phair for a touchdown with 7:17 still left in the period. Kicker Gavin Applebee stuck the ball between the uprights putting the Hawks on top 8-0.

The Hawks found the end zone one more time in the first quarter. Curtis ran the ball in with 4:35 left to play, and Applebee once again split the uprights for the extra points as Hermon took a 16-0 lead into the second period.

Hermon took a little longer to score in the second quarter, but Sam Hopkins found the end zone with 2:51 remaining in the half. Applebee's kick was good, and the Hawks went up 24-0. Brewer was able to finally answer back, finding the end zone with 33.4 seconds left on the clock. The extra points attempt failed, and the Witches pulled to a 24-6 score.

The Hawks wrapped up the first half scoring as the clock rolled down to 0:00 when Kobe Hills took a pass from Justin Largay for a touchdown. Applebee again connected for the extra points and the Hawks took a 32-6 lead into the halftime break.

Both teams added one more score each in the third quarter, and that would be all the scoring in the game. Brewer scored on a 25 yard run with 3:47 left to play in the quarter, but the extra point attempt failed once again. Hermon led the game 32-12. Hermon closed out the scoring for the game with a touchdown by Ethan Pyle, and the extra points kick by Applebee putting the eventual winning score at 40-12. Applebee had a great game, going 5-for-5 in extra point kicks good for 10 points in the game.
