Brewer boys down Erskine by 30-point margin

BREWER – The Brewer boys varsity traveled to So. China Monday to take on Erskine Academy and they played, they scored, a lot, and won the game 70-40 so they were able to enjoy the bus ride home.

This game was similar to the previous game with Erskine,  Brewer won the first matchup 71-44. In this game, the Witches jumped out to an 18-11 lead and held a 39-20 halftime advantage. By the end of the third quarter, Brewer had a 54-29 lead and they cruised through the final quarter for their 11th win of the season.

All nine of the Brewer varsity scored in the game. Dylan Huff led the scoring with 14 points; Aaron Newcomb 13; Trevor Pearson 11; Brady Saunders and Ryder Goodwin nine each; Colby Smith six; Kyle Goodrich four; and Lenox Cummings and Gavin Carr two each.

Brewer was 18-of-24 (75 percent) from behind the foul line. They knocked down four 3-pointers, two from Huff, and one each from Newcomb and Saunders.

For Erskine, Andrew Robinson had a team-high 10 points; Jacob Mills eight; Nick Hayden six; Michael Nicholas five; Nate Collins four; Nick Barber three; and Matthew Stultz and Dan Page two each.

The Eagles were 2-of-8 (25 percent) from the free-throw line. They had two 3-pointers, one each from Robinson and Nicholas.

Brewer 11-6 will host Skowhegan Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in their final regular season game.
