Lincoln stays alive with victory over Hermon in 11/12 softball District Championship

GLENBURN - The Lincoln 11/12 softball team broke open a tie game with five runs in the fourth inning and held on to pick up a 9-6 win over Hermon in the District softball championship game in Glenburn Monday night. The Lincoln (2-1) victory over Hermon (2-1) forces the If Necessary game to take place. Both teams will battle for the District Championship again at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday night in Glenburn.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the third inning to take a 4-4 tie into the fourth inning. Lincoln sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the fourth inning plating five runs on three walks, two base hits and a dropped third strike. JayLyn Crosby had an infield single in the inning, and Amara Perfect had an RBI single to help Lincoln take a 9-4 lead.

Hermon used two walks, wild pitches, and passed balls to plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Lincoln lead to 9-6.

Hermon opened the bottom of the sixth inning needing base runners and started with a base on balls, but the runner was gunned down at second base by Lincoln catcher Sophie Blomsma for the first out of the inning. Pitcher Lily Wotton struck out the next batter on a called third strike, and got the final batter of the inning to roll a ground ball back to the circle to end the game.

Hermon had just one base hit in the game, and RBI single by Katie Fowler in the first inning.
