Neal powers Hampden Academy to come from behind victory over Lady Dragons

HAMPDEN - Monday afternoon at the Weatherbee Complex in Hampden, Camryn Neal powered the Hampden Academy Lady Broncos to a 5-3 come from behind win over the Brunswick Dragons.

Brunswick took the early lead in the first inning on an error, a dropped third strike, and a 2-run double by Morgan Plourde for the 2-0 Dragons lead.

Hampden got one run back in the second on a solo home run to left field bv Neal to cut the Brunswick lead to 2-1. Bronco pitcher Sydney Hatch held the Dragons in check allowing just one hit over innings two through five.

Brunswick plated another run in the sixth inning on a Plourde RBI single for a 3-1 lead, but Hampden answered in the bottom half of the inning on two base hits and a ground out RBI by Abby Lyons to cut the Dragons lead to 3-2.

After shutting down Brunswick in the seventh inning, highlighted by a throw from Broncos catcher Addie Hughes to third base to pick off  Mia Desantis steal attempt, the Broncos came to bat and set the stage for some Neal heroics. Hatch helped her own cause by singling in the tying run, and Neal came to bat with the winning run in scoring position. She quickly drilled a pitch to left field for a ground rule double plating two runs for the 5-3 score and win.

Neal topped all hitters with a single, double, home run, and three runs batted in to lead the Broncos. Hatch had a single and an RBI, and Bailey Anderson, Eliza Murphy, and Addie Hughes each had a base hit. Hatch picked up the win from inside the circle scattering four hits while walking two and striking out nine. She hit one batter.

Brunswick was led by Plourde with a single, double, and three runs batted in. Desantis added two bunt singles and stole three bases.
