Flagg leads Witches to win over Nokomis

 BREWER – The Brewer girls hosted Nokomis Thursday night in JV and varsity action. Freshman Allie Flagg scored the first four points of the game and went on to score a team high 14 points in the 52-42 win.

Brewer led after the first quarter 13-8, however, Nokomis outscored the Witches 18-11 to take a 26-24 lead into the halftime break. The third and fourth quarters were Brewer's as they outscored Nokomis in both leading 36-33 after three and with the 16-9 final quarter they were captured the win.

Flagg had five points in the first quarter to pace Brewer to the 13-8 lead. In the second quarter the Warriors buried four 3-pointers with Townsend nailing two of her four in the game. 

The third quarter saw Flagg again take the lead for the Witches with a pair 0f 3-pointers and a foul shot for seven points. In the fourth Trea Broussard had seven points including 3-of-4 from the foul line. 

Defensively between, Flagg, Riley Umel and Jordan Doak they had to have had 10 steals combined with the speed to get up and down the court and the quickness to get the ball and not the hand. Brewer committed just 11 fouls in the game while the visitors got charged with 23 total fouls. 

Brewer's Jenna McQuarrie was dominate on the boards with eight of her 10 points being put backs off the rebound. 

Despite being without the services of Mariah Roberts tonight the team played very well on both sides of the ball. 

Scoring for Brewer were, Flagg with 14 points; Umel and McQuarrie 10 each; Broussard eight; Doak six; and Kelly DiCarlo four.

Brewer was 14-of-28 (50) from the foul line and they knocked down four 3-pointers, two each from Flagg and Umel. 

For Nokomis, Bri Townsend had a game high 16 points with 12 of those coming off 3-pointers; Danica Migloire 11; Syd King nine; Emberill Michaud three; Addie Hawthorne two; and Emma Marble one. 

The Warriors were 5-of-8 (63 percent) from behind the charity stripe. The tallied seven 3-pointers in the game, four from Townsend, and one each from Michaud, Migloire, and King.

Brewer goes to  3-7 with the win and they will travel to Messalonskee for a game Saturday, Jan. 22 with the JV at 11:30 a.m. and the varsity at 1 p.m.
