Brewer squeezes out single point victory over Broncos

Sunday morning at Brewer High School, the Brewer 5/6B boys battled with the Hampden Broncos for two halves and came away with a very slim 38-37 victory as Brody Flagg and Luke Stuber scored double digit points to lead the Witches in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel ball game.

What turned out to be the difference maker in the game was Brewer going on top 20-9 by the end of the first half. Flagg and Stuber combined to score 15 of the Witches 20 points in the half.

The first half turned out to be huge for Brewer, as Hampden turned it up a notch in the second half out scoring Brewer 28-18. Five different players scored at least four points for Hampden in the period, but the Broncos ran out of time falling one point shy of forcing an overtime.

Flagg scored a game high 17 points and Stuber added 10 points to pace the Witches in scoring. Also scoring for Brewer was Paxon Snow with five points, and scoring two points each was Alex Arnold, Cam Bryant, and Liam Greenlaw.

Brewer had no baskets from behind the arc, but they did shoot 8-for-17 (47 percent) from the foul line.

Hampden was led in scoring by Owen Isenhour with a team high 14 points. Nolan Naughton and Carter Kenney each added seven points, Drew McKenney had five points, and Grady O'Roak scored four.

Hampden had one 3-point basket by McKenney, and they went just 2-for-8 (25 percent) from the charity stripe.
