Hermon 3/4 girls hold off surging Broncos for EMBL opening game victory

HAMPDEN - Sunday morning at Reeds Brook school in Hampden, the Hermon Hawks Gold held on against a surging Hampden Broncos team in the final seconds to come away with a 16-15 win on opening day in the Eastern Maine Basketball League for each of the 3rd/4th grade girls teams.

Hermon grabbed a 6-2 first half lead, but the Broncos turned their game around in the second half out scoring the Hawks 13-10. Many of those 13 points came late in the half, including a basket to cut the Hermon lead to 16-15 with just 12 seconds left in the game.

Sophie Curtis and Ava Defrederico each scored four points to lead the Hawks in scoring. Scoring two points each was Annelise Cormier, Kendra Davis, Madelyn Johnston, and Emily Philbrick.

Kenzie Elliott scored a game high 10 points to top Hampden in scoring. Lucy Krummell added four points, and Isla O'Connell chipped in with one point.
