Ellsworth 7/8A boys to much for younger Brewer squad

 BREWER – Sunday afternoon at the Brewer Center Street Gym, a bigger, more experienced Ellsworth team cruised to an 81-27 win over a young Brewer team in a 7th/8th grade Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

A young Brewer team, with just two eighth graders and a couple sixth graders to fill out the roster, played really hard throughout the entire contest despite the score.

Ellsworth put the game away in the first half, out scoring the Witches 47-13. Brewer battled through the second half to just a 20 point difference (34-14) to close the game out.

The Ellsworth team had three scorers in double digits, with Dawson Curtis leading the way with a game high 16 points. Cooper Mitchell added 11 points, and Jackson Barry netted 10 points. Others contributing to the Ellsworth victory were Colby Eaton and Bryce Hart with eight points each. Porter Merrill and TJ McAlpine both scored six points, Alex McGowan and Caleb Jordan each added four points, Cam Connors and Rykin Hamor both had three points, and Evan Haskell chipped in with two points.

The Eagles had three 3-point baskets, two by Eaton and one by Jordan, and they went 4-for-10 (40 percent) from the free throw line.

Oliver Higgins and Cody Hews topped Brewer in scoring with eight points each, and James Seymour added seven points. Ayden Barnard had three points, and Cooper Charette added one point.

The Witches had one 3-point basket by Seymour, and the went 8-for-18 (44 percent) from the charity stripe.
