BREWER – The Brewer 7-8th grade girls travel basketball team hosted Down East Family YMCA of Ellsworth in an Easter Maine Basketball League season opener. As good as Brewer appeared, DEFY was that much better beating the young Witches 75-31.

Four players from Ellsworth scored double figures. Elizabeth Boles led the charge with 22 points; Kaylee Bagley had 16; and Cailin Chase and Camryn Clough added 10 each. Other scores for Ellsworth were, Sydney Mason with nine points, Julianna Sprague four, and Olivia Jordan and Allie Bivens two each.
For Brewer, Gabby Chase led the team with 11 points, Olivia Gilmore had nine, Madison Shaw five, Abbie Flagg four, and Layla Hanlon two.
DEFY outscored Brewer 31-14 in the first half. That was the same amount as Brewer scored in the game. Ellsworth poured in 44 more for good measure in an outstanding offensive performance.
