Doak leads Brewer girls to victory over Broncos

 HAMPDEN - Tuesday afternoon on the turf field in Hampden, Jordan Doak led the Brewer Witches to a 2-1 victory over the Hampden Academy Broncos in girls varsity soccer action. Doak scored two goals for the Brewer girls, who defeated Hampden for the first time since 2018.

The game was very evenly matched throughout, although the Broncos had a slight advantage in possession. Brewer took a 1-0 lead late in the first half when Doak scored off an assist from Mya Edgecomb with 4:11 remaining on the clock.

The Lady Broncos were able to tie the game at 1-1 vary late in the opening half when Destiny Mooers scored with 39.2 seconds left in the half. Tessa Castrucci assisted on the goal.

As the two teams battled back and forth over the first 20 plus minutes of the second half, Doak was finally able to break free and from just over five yards out and to the right of the goal she was able to drill the ball past Hampden goalkeeper Logan Daigle into the right corner of the net for the 2-1 Brewer lead and eventual winning score with 11:22 left to play in the game.

The Witches had 10 shots in the game, six of those shots were on goal, and they added five corners in the game. Brewer goalkeeper Bella Tanis had six saves for the win.

The Broncos amassed 14 shots in the game, with seven shots on goal. They had six corners in the game. Goalkeeper Logan Daigle had four saves.

Brewer's next scheduled game will be home as they host Skowhegan at 3:30 p.m. Hampden Academy will also be home for their next scheduled game as they host Camden Hills at 4:00 p.m.
