HERMON - Wednesday afternoon at Laughlin Field on the campus of Hermon High School, the John Bapst Crusaders of Bangor survived a tough first half to score a goal in each of the final two quarters to take home a 2-0 victory over the Hermon Hawks in a mutual season opener of the 2021 field hockey season.

The Crusaders struggled in the opening quarter, as Hermon dominated play for
the majority of the 15 minute scoreless period. In the second quarter, the
play of John Bapst got much stronger as they were able to continually share
the balance of power with the Hawks in yet another scoreless quarter.

John Bapst took the 1-0 lead in the third quarter when Madelyn Copithome
found the back of the box with 6:41 remaining in the period.

The Crusaders picked up an insurance goal in the fourth quarter from Audra
Brooks with 12:22 left to play in the game to take a 2-0 lead with the
eventual winning score.

The Crusaders had six shots with two corners in the game, while Hermon had
four shots and nine corners. Hermon goalkeeper had four saves in the game.
