Old Town Y, Lawrence win Glenburn Rec 5/6 girls tourney semifinals

Sunday afternoon at the Glenburn School, the Old Town Y girls defeated Presque Isle 23-20 and Lawrence needed overtime to come away with a 35-31 victory over Bangor in the Glenburn Rec's 5th/6th grade basketball tournament semifinal games.

After Old Town took a 2-0 first quarter lead, they followed that minuscule lead up with a 9-4 secondperiod to take an 11-4 lead into overtime. Presque Isle out scored Old Town 16-12 over the second half, but they were not able to overcome the first half deficit.

Taylor Loring scored eight point and Konna Dumond added seven points to lead Old Town to the victory.

Georganna Curtis scored eight points and Rhianna Desjardins had four points to lead the Wildcats in scoring.

Lawrence had full control of the game in the first half, taking a 9-4 first quarter lead and an 18-11 half time lead. Bangor began to rally back in the second half, out scoring the Bulldogs 12-8 in the third period to pull with three points at 26-23. 


With Lawrence leading by one point, Bangor's Avery Clark knocked down a free throw with 30 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 31-31.

In the overtime period, a Kayci Ross put back gave the Bulldogs a 33-31 lead, and Maddie Provost sealed the game with two free throws giving Lawrence the 35-31 win.

Tournament high scorer Provost continued to be a dominant scorer with 22 points in the game for Lawrence. Ashley Shores added nine points and Ross scored four.

Bangor was led in scoring by Clark and Gabby Roy with 10 points each, and Clara Oldenburg with six points.

Old Town and Lawrence both advanced to the Championship game to determine the 2020 Champion.
