Hermon pulls away in second half to win EMBL 5/6 B girls Championship

BREWER - Saturday morning at Brewer High School, the Hermon and Glenburn 5th/6th grade girls opened up the first of nine games for the Eastern Maine Basketball League on Championship Saturday. Hermon pulled away in the second half to pick up a 41-26 win over Glenburn to take home the 2019-20 5/6B Championship.

Both teams were very equal during the first half. Glenburn came out strong and took a 7-2 lead, but an 8-0 run by Hermon put the Hawks right back into the game, The first half closed with Hermon on top by just two points at 20-18.

Hermon's Kass Lebel was defended very well during the opening half, and was held to just three free throws over the 16 minute period. The second half was a different story, as Lebel found ways to score and knocked down 13 of the Hawks 21 points in the period. Hermon opened the final half with a 5-0 start over the first two minutes, and stretched that run out to 13-3 to pull away with a 33-21 lead with  nine minutes to play left in the game. Hermon took their biggest lead of the game at 37-22 with 4:30 remaining. That would be the same margin of victory as both teams closed out the scoring with four points each.

Lebel scored a game high 16 points and Sabree Thomas added 11 points to lead the Hawks in scoring. Lydia Muth scored six points, Abi Dubois had four points, and both Mikelle Lane and Erin Selleck added two points. Hermon went 7-for-14 (50 percent) from the free throw line.

Eve Wiles scored a team high 14 points to pace the Chargers in scoring. Mallory Lausier added six points and Grace Labree had five points. Emily Caulkins chipped in with one point. Glenburn went 4-for-13 (31 percent) from the charity stripe.
