Hampden 7/8A boys pick up come from behind win

HAMPDEN - Sunday morning at the Reed's Brook School in Hampden, the Broncos 7/8A boys overcame an eight point half time deficit to bounce back to a 52-46 victory over the Brewer Witches in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

Brewer opened the first quarter , after trailing 11-7 midway through the period, with a 19-13 score highlighted by a 12-2 run over the final three minutes. The Witches out scored Hampden 12-10 in the second quarter, and took a 31-23 lead into half time.

The Broncos made their move towards a win in the third quarter, out scoring Brewer 13-7 in the period to close to within two of the Witches at 38-36 at the buzzer. A 16-8 final period for the Broncos sealed the six point win.

JJ Wolfington scored a game high 14 points and Nick Johnston added 12 points to lead the Broncos in scoring. Kam Tardif had eight points and Zach McLaughlin added seven. Andy heneghan scored five, Jacob Breton had four points, and Ethan Marquis chipped in with two points.

Hampden had two 3-point baskets, one each from Tardif and McLaughlin, and they went 8-for-15 (53 percent) from the free throw line.

Charles bridges scored 12 points and Braden Carr added 11 points to pace the Witches in scoring. Kyle Horr scored nine points, and both Cole Harrison and Jake Perry added five points. Cody Bailey and Tyler Wilkinson each had two points.

Brewer had five 3-point baskets, two by Bridges and one each from Harrison, Carr, and Perry. They went 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
