Windham slugs, pitches way to victory over Hermon in 11/12 softball State Tournament

GLENBURN - Thursday afternoon in Glenburn, the Windham (District 6) 11-12 softball team jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and that would be all they needed as they improved to 2-0 in the State Tournament with a 10-1 victory over District 3 Hermon as Kennedy Kimball scattered 4 hits and struck out 11 in the win.

Windham sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning to take an early 5-0 lead, and that would be all the runs they would need. Kennedy Kimball and Oakley McLeod each had RBI singles in the inning.

Kimball, who pitched a perfect game (no runs, no hits, no walks) in the opening game of the tournament, retired the first 10 batters she faced before Hope Curry broke through for Hermon with the first hit of the game for the Hawks in the fourth inning and the first hit off Kimball in 10 innings of the tournament. Hermon left Curry stranded as Kimball retired the next two batters to end the inning.
