Severance leads Glenburn to 8-9-10 softball district tourney opening game win

BANGOR - Friday afternoon at the Bangor Little League softball field, Jillian Severance led the Glenburn 8-9-10 All-Stars to a 15-0 Mercy Rule win over Bronco Little League in the District Three softball tournament opening game.

Severance was nearly untouchable from inside the circle, as she allowed just two Bronco base runners over the three innings of play. She struggled to start the game, as she delivered three straight balls to the Bronco lead off hitter. She then battled back to strike out that same lead off hitter plus the next two batters to end the top of the first inning.

Glenburn plated five runs in the bottom half of the first inning, highlighted by a 2-run triple from Severance to take a 5-0 lead into the second inning.

Bronco managed to pick up an infield single in the second inning, but that runner was stranded at first base when Severance again struck out the side to increase her total to six strikeouts. Glenburn batted around the order in their half of the second inning scoring nine more runs to stretch their lead to 14-0. Severance added another extra base hit (double) in the inning while driving in another run.

Bronco had their first base runner advance beyond first base after a walk and a stolen base in the third and eventual final inning, but that runner was stranded at second base after Severance ran her strikeout total to nine over the three inning game. Glenburn plated their final run in the bottom half of the third inning for the final 15-0 score.
