Glenburn Rec tournaments hit the ground running with girls 5/6 tourney

GLENBURN - The annual Glenburn Rec tournaments got underway Saturday morning with the 5th/6th grade girls. This double elimination, 9-team tournament includes teams from Blue Hill, Ellsworth, Nokomis (Newport), Dexter, Hampden, Lawrence (Fairfield), Presque Isle (2 teams), and host team Glenburn.

Nokomis and Blue Hill opened the tournament, and Nokomis used an 11-3 third quarter to pick up a 21-13 victory. Neither team scoed in the fourth quarter.

Cait Murphy and Kennedy Fortin combined for 16 points in the second game of the day as Hampden pulled out a 22-18 win over Dexter.

Ellsworth had no problems in the third game of the day, as they opened with a 4-0 first quarter and followed that up with an 8-2 second period to take a 12-2 half time lead. An 18-4 second half led Ellsworth to a 30-6 win over the Presque Isle-Blue team.

Ashley Shores scored an impressive 18 points and Maddie Provost added five points as the Lawrence girls picked up a 23-10 victory over the Presque Isle-White girls. Lawrence put the game away with a 15-2 first half.

In Game 5 of the day, Nokomis held a slim 10-6 half time lead over Glenburn. The Wildcats improved to a 15-3 second half to pull out a 25-9 win over the host team Chargers.
