Opening day for Glenburn Rec 5/6 Girls tourney

GLENBURN - On Saturday morning at the Glenburn Elementary School, the Glenburn Rec 5th and 6th grade girls travel basketball tournament got under way. In the opening games of the day, Lawrence defeated Holbrook, Oakfield knocked of MDI-White, host team Glenburn fell to MDI-Green, and Old Town Rec cruised to victory over Augusta.

In the first game of the morning, Lawrence and Holbrook battled down to the final seconds as Lawrence came from behind to pull out a 21-18 win over Holbrook.

Abby Folsom and Maylie Knox each scored a game high eight points to lead Lawrence in scoring, and Amy Boyce added five points. 

Mariah Roberts topped Holbrook in scoring with seven points, while Lauren Voteur and Lindsey Pine each scored four points. Kasey Kimball chipped in with three points.

Oakfield held MDI-White scoreless in the opening quarter of game two, and took a 19-0 lead which became a 26-1 half time lead. Oakfield out scored MDI 13-5 over the second half for the 39-6 win.

Leading Oakfield in scoring was Maddie Shields with a game high eight points and both Cami Shields and Emmalee Landry scored seven points.

Scoring for MDI-White was Anna Fernald with four points and Maya Watson with two points.

.MDI-Green trailed the host team Glenburn 8-6 at the half, and it took them five minutes of the third quarter before they managed to take their first lead of the game (11-10) with one minute left in the period. MDI went on to out score Glenburn 6-4 in the final quarter for the 17-14 victory.

Lilly Alley scored a game high 13 points to lead MDI to the win. Emma Westrich scored six points and Lauren Hogan added four points to pace the Chargers in scoring.

Augusta had no answers for the height of  Old Town Rec and fell behind 23-8 by half time. Old Town finished the game out scoring Augusta 14-12 on their way to a commanding 37-20 win.

Sage Evans led all scorers with a game high 20 points to lead Old Town in scoring, and Makayla Emerson added 11 points. Danica Brown chipped in with six points.

Bri Madore scored six points to top Augusta, and both Alexa Pattershall and Maci Freeman scored four points.
