Championship Sunday at the Glenburn Rec 3/4 Boys hoops tournament

GLENBURN – All day Saturday and again this Sunday morning the eight teams participating in the weekend tournament played their best to make it into the afternoon and evening semifinal and championship day.

After a great morning of exciting basketball, the four teams heading to the finals were announced with #1 Pittsfield and #2 Five Town (Camden), going in from Pool A, to play #1 Hermon and #2 Maranacook from Pool B.


SEMIFINAL #1
Maranacook 33, Pittsfield 25


Maranacook opened the game with a 6-1 run and ended the first quarter with an 8-3 lead and never looked back as they never trailed in the game.

Liam Ferren led Maranacook with 11 points followed by Landon Magnusson with seven. 

Pittsfield's Jake Moore had six points and Emmett Sulley five.

SEMIFINAL #2
Hermon 31, Five Town 24

The Hermon boys remained undefeated in the tournament with the semifinal game to go to 4-0 and head to the championship against Maranacook. These two teams played on Saturday, with Hermon pulling just a 2-point victory.

Leading 14-10 entering the third quarter, Hermon went on a 10-3 run to make it 24-13 with 4-minutes left and outscored Five Town 12-10 to take a 26-20 lead into the final quarter. 

The fourth quarter was tough on both teams. Hermon's River Shields had the only point of the quarter on a foul shot with just 3:36 left. Hermon ended the game holding Five Town to four points while scoring five of their own for the win.

Leading the scoring for Hermon was Gideon Straubel with 16 points, and Jordan Lancaster with 10. 

For Five town it was Everett Dugal with a team high 11 points and Brecken Geisler with five.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Hermon 33, Maranacook 24

The Hermon boys did not let back to back games bother them as they took on Maranacook in the Glenburn Rec 3rd and 4th grade boys tournament championship game, and walked away 5-0 on the weekend with a championship trophy for their efforts.

Maranacook came out ready to play and took a 7-4 first quarter lead. However, Hermon was up for the battle and came back in the second to outscore Maranacook 13-5 to take a 17-12 halftime advantage. Hermon took the lead for the first time in the game on back-to-back baskets by River Shields with 3:35 left in that second quarter. 

The third quarter was again Hermon as they took a 23-15 lead into the final stanza where they once again outscored Maranacook 10-9 for the win.

Hermon's Shields, led the second quarter with 12 of his game high 16 points; Jordon Lancaster added 11; Thomas Tracey four; and Nick Lord two. 

Other members of the Hermon team are,  Hayden Brocato, Owen Scripture, Russell Berry, Gideon Straubel, and William Scroggins. 

For Maranacook, Liam Ferron had 11 points; Jackson and Landon Magnusson  each scored five; Jace Pellitier had two; and Bryce Wing had one. 

Other members of the team are Miles Daigle, Callen Cote, and Ried Greenman.

Saturday Games

GAME 1
MDI 28, Holbrook 16

Barrett Terry led MDI to the victory with eight points and Brody Dowsland seven. 

Lyric Cogdell paced Holbrook with a game high 11 points.

GAME 2
Pittsfield 25, Glenburn 24

With 2-minutes left in the fourth quarter Glenburn's Peyton Nash hit two foul shots to tie the game at 23-23 before falling to Pittsfield in the end.

Luke Ross led the Pittsfield boys with 10 points, followed by Emmett Sulley with seven and Jake Moore with six.

For Glenburn, Brody Saucier led the team with 10 points followed by Jace Holloway with seven and Nash with six.

GAME 3
Hermon 33, Maranacook 31

Another close game with Hermon pulling this one out despite the rust in the first half, having not had a practice since this past Monday. 

Leading the way for Hermon was Gideon Straubel with nine and River Shields with eight. 

For Maranacook, Landon Magnusson had a game high 15 points.

GAME 4
Five Town 23, Lincoln 15

After being tied at 10 each at the half, Five Town used the third quarter to pull away outscoring Lincoln 9-1 to take a 19-11 lead into the final stanza.

The Camden team was led by Colin Fitzpatrick and Johnathan Fernald with six each, and Everett Dugal four.

Lincoln's Bennett Libbey had a game high 11 points.
