Haskell leads Broncos to 39-36 win over the Bangor girls

 HAMPDEN – The Hampden girls basketball program hosted Bangor High School Monday evening with the night starting out with a Broncos Jv win 40-39 over the young Rams.

In the varsity game it was Hampden's Emma Haskell with a game high 17 points including five 3-pointers that led the way for the Broncos for a big 39-36 win at the Stable.

Bangor came out pressing full court and the game was close all the way because of it. Hampden led after the first quarter 9-7, but Bangor fought back and outscoring Hampden 12-9 to take a 19-18 lead into the half time break.



The third quarter was a repeat of the first with Hampden taking a 9-7 edge to put the game 27-26 heading into the final stanza. The final buzzer could not come quick enough for the Broncos who played a very solid game of take care of the ball despite the aggressive and very solid defense of the Rams to hold on in the end for the win.

Scoring for Hampden were Haskell with 17 points; Lucy Wiles and Bella McLaughlin six each;  and Taylor Gardner and Lauren Voteur five each.

The Broncos were 2-of-4 (50 percent) from the foul line and knocked down seven 3-pointers, the five from Haskell and one each from Gardner and Voteur.

For the Rams, Abbie Quinn was high scorer for the team with 13 points; Laela Martinez and Amelia Quinn seven each; Taylor Coombs four; Lily Chandler three; and Emmie Streams two.

Bangor was 4-of-10 (40 percent) from the charity stripe and they had two 3-pointers, one each from Martinez and Chandler.

The Hampden Girls will travel to Skowhegan Tuesday, Feb. 1 while Bangor will travel to Lewiston.
