Lady Chargers cruise to victory over Ellsworth in EMBBL action

GLENBURN - Saturday afternoon at the Glenburn School, the Glenburn Chargers had little difficulty with the Ellsworth Eagles as they cruised to a 48-21 victory in an Eastern Maine Basketball League 7/8B girls contest.

Glenburn set the tone in the opening quarter, going up 8-0 before Ellsworth scored their first basket with just two minutes left on the clock. The quarter ended with the Chargers on top 8-4.

The Chargers jumped out quickly in the second period, going on a 16-4 run to take a 24-8 lead with 1:30 left in the period. The quarter came to a close with Glenburn taking a 26-9 commanding lead into the half time break.

Glenburn owned the second half as well, out scoring the Eagles 12-6 in the third quarter and 10-6 in the final period.

Eve Wiles and Emily Caulkins each scored a game high 12 points to lead the Chargers. Also adding to the win was Grace Labree and Mallory Lausier with six points each, Andrea Crocker with five points, Jillian Severance with four points, and Lily Wilcox with three points. 

Glenburn had no baskets from behind the arc, and they went 8-for-16 (50 percent) from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Kennedy Clifford with six points, Mia Knapp with five, and Violet Ray with four points. Austyn Atherton, Hannah Frost, and Bailey Joyce all chipped in with two points each.

The Eagles had no 3-point baskets, and they only went to the foul line twice going 1-for-2 (50 percent).
