Glenburn 7/8A boys handle MDI for opening weekend victory in the EMBL

GLENBURN - At the Glenburn School on Saturday morning, the Chargers Brady Hews scored 16 points to lead the Glenburn 7/8A boys to an opening weekend victory over MDI in an Eastern Maine Basketball League game.

Glenburn opened with a first quarter five point lead, and at the half time break had increased their lead to 10 points with a 30-20 lead. The Chargers pretty much put the game away in the third quarter out scoring MDI 12-6 to take a 42-26 lead into the final period. MDI clawed their way back with a 15-6 fourth quarter, but the Chargers were able to hang on and pick up the seven point 48-41 win.

Hews was joined in scoring by Nolan Coon with 11 points, Colby Haggerty with 10 points, and Aiden Ouellette with seven points. Johnny Jones and Zac Babcock each chipped in two points. Glenburn had no baskets from behind the arc, and they went 4-for-8 from the free throw line.

James William had a game high 23 points to top MDI in scoring. Other scorers included Joey Bennett with 11 points, Mason Hepointe with three points, and Dylan Stoll with two points. MDI had two 3-point baskets, both by William, and they went 9-for-15 from the charity stripe.
