John Bapst slips past Oceanside in Field Hockey prelim

BANGOR – The No. 7 John Bapst field hockey team hosted No. 10 Oceanside of Rockland in a Class B preliminary matchup Saturday morning at the Union St. Athletic Complex.

At 5:23 seconds left in the first quarter, John Bapst's, Olivia Rand, found the back of the goal on a scrum at the edge of the goal mouth. With that, the Crusaders took the 1-0 lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

The rest of the game was a pleasure to witness, as both teams played extremely hard, both having numerous  opportunities. That said, both teams worked very hard just to get to a chance to take a shot. The backfield just was not letting the opponent by them very often.

Oceanside's Maddy Ripley put the pressure on the defense most of the game, but picked it up in the second half finishing with three shots on goal in the game.

Bapst has improved very much as the season has gone on. Today the girls put it all together and shut out a team that is much better than their record would indicate.

Goal keepers on both sides of the field, Asia Dube for the Crusaders, and Mackenzie Hobbs and Winter Adams for the Mariners were outstanding.

Dube had two saves on 11 shots from Oceanside for the win. Hobbs worked the goal in the first half for the Mariners where she had five saves on six shots. Adams was in goal for the Mariners in the second half where she had four saves on four shots.

John Bapst moves to 8-7-0 on the season while Oceanside finishes the season at 3-11-0.

John Bapst will face off against Class B No. 2 Old Town with a date to be determined.

Oceanside--- 0-0-0-0---0
