Chandler, Scott, lead Bangor to Northern Division Championship match

BANGOR – Cameron Stadium was buzzing Friday night as the Bangor girls soccer team continued it's perfect season with a 2-0 win over visiting Messalonskee in a Class A Northern Semifinal match to advance to the Regional Championship Match.

That match will be Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. at Messalonskee High School where they will play the winner of today's Camden Hills and Brunswick semifinal match.

Friday night was like any to start, as both teams struggled against the opponents defense which was phenomenal from both teams all night.

And then it happened, with 1:34 left in the first half, when sophomore Lily Chandler took a deflection off Olivia Snow's foot and drilled the ball into the back of the net before the Eagles keeper, Brennan Doran, could even move. With that, the Rams took their 1-0 lead into the second half.

Neither team had much luck attacking the goal for the first 20 minutes of the half, as the defense stood tall on both sides of the field. Finally, at 21:27, Bangor junior Olivia Scott found herself approaching the goal and took a pass from Emilyn Streams. Seeing nothing but white jerseys, Scott kept attacking and the Eagles looked ready to defend the goal when suddenly Scott found herself alone and back about 12 feet out and she took advantage of the break to drive the ball past the Eagles Doran for the goal.

Every night someone different is stepping up and leading the team. Tonight was no different. Friday night it was Chandler, Scott, and the defense that paved the way.

Bangor's Emma McNeil was solid in goal with a few shots right at her, and a great save on a shot late in the game to preserve the shutout win. Doran was also very good in goal stopping a number of shots and using her strong boot to clear the ball back past midfield every time.
