Bangor girls use new fast turf to their advantage

BANGOR – Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., history was made as the Bangor High School girls soccer team hosted Brewer High School on the new Cameron Stadium artificial turf for the very first girls soccer match.

For a team like Bangor that uses it's speed and mad passing abilities, the artificial turf is like a miracle gift and they used it Saturday to rout Brewer 7-0.

Bangor came out like it was a team that had just dethroned one of the top rated teams in high school soccer, and that is because they just did! Ending Camden Hills amazing 71 game undefeated record may have been just what this team needed to propel them through the rest of the season and deep into the state playoffs.

The scoring started early, just a little over 10 minutes into the match. Olivia Scott buried the ball in the goal to become the first to score a soccer goal on the new field. That came with an assist from Devon St. Louis. Less than a minute later, St. Louis took a pass from Ashley Schultz and banged it past a diving Brewer goalie, Isabella Tanis, to make it 2-0.

Bangor would score twice more in the first half. Lily Chandler scored unassisted at 22:11 of the half, and Teagan Atherley followed at 12:50 unassisted to close out the scoring and taking the 4-0 lead into the half.

Bangor scored three more times in the second half, and ironically it was three of the same from the first half. Scott got her second goal to start the scoring at 35:28 of the half with an assist from Rachel Mathieu.

St. Louis was next with a beautiful tap of a rebound. As she charged the goal, the ball came off of Tanis's hands, and St. Louis tapped it into the net unassisted to make it 6-0.

Freshman, Atherley scored her second and the final goal of the game at 16:34 to give Bangor the 7-0 win.

Bangor goalies Emma McNeil and Eva Coombs combined to make three saves on seven shots from Brewer.

Brewers Tanis was just blistered as she faced 35 shots in the game, but made some beautiful saves that kept this game from getting out of hand.
