Witches tangle with Rams in cross town field hockey matchup

BREWER – The Brewer field hockey team hosted a make-up game with cross town rival Bangor Tuesday night under the light at Heddericg Field where the Witches took the 4-2 win.

From the outset the Witches looked like they wanted the game. For the first five minutes they dominated the field. However, the Rams seemed to regroup and the race was on.

With the win Brewer goes to 2-1 while Bangor falls to 1-2.

Brewer scored first at 10:23 on a goal from Jaiden Williams with an assist from Laura Stewart. With just 4:07 left in the second quarter Callie Moran scored unassisted to give the Witches a 2-0 lead. 

With just 2:53 left in the second quarter Bangor got on the board with an unassisted goal from Genevieve Sychterz who found the back of the cage to cut the Witches lead to 2-1.

Stewart got Brewer an insurance goal at 14:13 of the third period with an assist to Brooklyne Fick. At 10:44 Fick gave the Witches a 4-1 lead.

Bangor came back at 5:13 of the third quarter with a goal from Anika Noack unassisted. That would be the final goal of the game as Bangor had two shots from way outside go through to the back of the net that were waved off by the officials. 


Emma Look was in goal for the Witches where she had 11 saves in the win. Lydia Lynch was in goal for Bangor where she had three saves. 

Brewer had two penalty corners while Bangor was awarded eight.

Both teams will be back in action Thursday as Brewer will play host to Hampden Academy with the varsity at 6:00 and the JV at approximately 7:30 pm. 

Bangor has a road game traveling to Rockport to take on the Camden Hills Windjammers.
