Bangor downs Bapst in hard fought win

BANGOR – The John Bapst field hockey team hosted the Bangor Rams Tuesday afternoon at the Union St. Softball & Soccer Athletic Complex falling 3-1 in a well played game from both teams.

Both teams got off to a slow start with the ball being at midfield most of the first two quarters. It was not until the third quarter that Bangor's Evelyn Humbert sent a shot into the goal mouth that was very nicely tapped in by Chase Smith for the first regular season goal for the Rams at 10:08 with the assist going to Humbert. 

Anika Noack made it 2-0 Bangor with an unassisted shot from the top of the arc at 6:36 in the fourth quarter on a shot heard loud and clear as she connected with the ball.

John Bapst got on the board at 3:06 in the final quarter on an unassisted shot from a hard working Audra Brooks who beat numerous defenders on her way to the goal to make it 2-1.  

Humbert and Smith hooked up for the final goal on a beautiful reverse swing from Humbert that sent the ball right to Smith set up at the goal line door who again tapped it in for the 3-1 win. at the :57 mark of the game.

Bangor had seven penalty corners while the Crusaders had eight.

Lydia Lynch was in goal for the Rams where she had five saves in the win. Asia Dube worked the goal for the Crusaders where she had eight saves.

The Crusaders will next face Old Town On Sept. 11 while Bangor will travel to Brewer on Saturday, Sept. 11 for the big matchup.
