Youthful Hawks breeze past Foxcroft Academy girls in season opener

HERMON - Two very young teams hit the hardwood on Friday night in Hermon, and the Lady Hawks proved to be the more experienced squad as they cruised to a 74-28 season opening victory over Foxcroft Academy in a Class B North match up.

Hermon was able to get every player in the game, and had a well balanced attack as four players scored in double digits with two others one point away from the double digit mark.

Hermon opened the game on a 10-0 run and out scored the Ponies 17-4 in the first quarter, as Paige Plissey scored eight points and Grace Page added seven points to lead the way. The Hawks increased their lead with a 13-7 second quarter to take a 30-11 lead into the halftime break.

The Hawks opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 38-11 with 5:40 left on the clock. They would go on to out score the Ponies 23-7 to stretch their lead to 53-18 after three quarters.

Hermon out scored Foxcroft 21-10 in the final period to close out the 46 point margin of victory. Freshman Sadie Campbell came off the bench in the period and knocked down two 3-point baskets to the delight of the home town fans.

Plissey led the Hawks in scoring with 12 points. Page, Megan Tracy, and Charlotte Caron also scored in double figures with 10 points each. Campbell and Elizabeth Wyman each scored nine points, and Sydney Gallop added six points. Maddie Lebel scored four points, and both Allie Cameron and Faith Coombs chipped in with two points.

Hermon had three 3-point baskets, all by Campbell, and they went 13-for-25 (52 percent) from the free throw line.

Annie Raynes topped Foxcroft in scoring with 12 points, and Kamryn Commeau and Destiny Weymouth each scored four points. Meghan Spooner, Jenna Anderson, Abby Knapp, and Natalie Robinson scored two points each.

Foxcroft had one 3-point basket by Raynes, and they went 3-for-12 (25 percent) from the charity stripe.
