Hampden 5/6A girls to much for Elite in EMBL travel game

HAMPDEN - Sunday morning at the Reed's Brook School in Hampden, a balanced offense helped the Broncos 5/6 A girls pile up 58 points in a dominating 58-25 win over Eastern Elite in an EMBL travel basketball game.

Hampden opened the game with a 6-1 run, and closed out the first quarter with a 15-5 lead. The Broncos out scored the Elite 14-10 in the second period to hold a 29-15 lead at half time.

Hampden continued to spread the scoring around over the second half, as all 10 players on the team scored at least one basket. A 14-9 third period put the broncos on top 43-24 heading into the final eight minutes, and Hampden's defense held the Elite to just one foul shot in the fourth quarter as they out scored their opponent 15-1 for the 33 point margin of victory.

Blayne Tardif came off the bench to lead the Broncos in scoring with 10 points, and Maya Carver added eight points. Sadie Tardif and Zoe Higgins each scored seven points, Skyler Smith and Madi Hardy both had six points, and Aubrey Shaw, Grace Marquis, and Paige Richard each added four points. Kaelyn Adams chipped in with two points.

Hampden had no baskets from beyond the arc, and they went 4-for-10 (40 percent) from the free throw line.

Karleigh Smith scored a game high 21 points to pace the Elite in scoring. Grace Howard and Meadow Rhode both added two points.

The Elite had one 3-point basket by Smith, and they went just 4-for-18 (22 percent) from the charity stripe.
