Chargers girls complete sweep of Wagner with dominating victory

GLENBURN - The Lady Chargers had three players score in double digits to lead them to a convincing 48-27 win over Samuel L. Wagner in a girls "A" team middle school game at the Glenburn School on Thursday night. Glenburn improved to 4-0 with the win, while Wagner falls to 1-2 with the loss.

Emma Westrich, Lucy Wiles, and Lauren Hogan each scored in double digits for the game, and provided all the scoring in the opening quarter as Glenburn held a 14-2 lead at the buzzer. Wagner was able to battle back and out score the Chargers 10-9 in the second quarter, leaving Glenburn with a 23-12 lead at half time.

The Chargers led 31-16 mid way through the third quarter, and wound up out scoring the Clippers 12-6 in the period to take a 35-18 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Wiles and Westrich combined for 10 of the 13 Glenburn points as the Chargers out scored Wagner 13-9 to complete the 21 point victory and remain undefeated on the season.

Wiles scored a game high 19 points, Westrich had 12 points, and Hogan added 10 points to pace the Chargers in scoring. Katie Hews scored five points and Molly Simcox chipped in with two points to round out the scoring for Glenburn.

The Chargers had two 3-point baskets, both by Wiles, and they went just 2-for-9 (22 percent) from the free throw line.

Caitlyn Murphy scored 10 points and Olivia Chase added seven points to top the Clippers in scoring. Ava Davis had four points, Sadie Tardif and Alyssa Rainy each scored two points, and both Maddie Hardy and Elania Reynolds scored one point.

Wagner did not have any baskets from behind the arc, and they went 5-for-10 (50 percent) from behind the charity stripe.
