Brewer girls pick up first win of season in overtime at Mt. Blue

FARMINGTON – The Brewer Witches girls' basketball team made its journey to Farmington to take on Mt. Blue and are riding home with smiles on their faces and a good 42-40 win in overtime.

The two teams were tied at 40-40 with time running out when Grace Robertson put up a floater with one second left in overtime for the win!! 


Brewer took a 10-7 first-quarter lead and extended that to a 19-12 half time advantage. Mt. Blue took over the game in the third quarter outscoring Brewer 16-5 and taking a 28-24 lead into the final stanza. Tied at 34-34 at the end of regulation the two teams went into overtime where they battled down to the last second of overtime evenly until Robertson's floater to win the game for the visiting Witches.

Scoring for Brewer was Kenzie Dore with 14 points; Brooke Merrow 11; Janessa Bishop eight; Robertson five; and Sarah Kiley and Kathryn Austin two each. 

The Witches were 10-of-13 (77 percent) from the foul line including Bishop going a perfect 4-of-4. Brewer had four 3-pointers, two from Dore, and one each from Robertson and Merrow.

For Mt. Blue, Lori Mittelstadt had 14 points; Eve-Marie Stevens 11; Hannah Wilbur six; Ashley Parlin five; and Katelyn Daggett and Kaitlin Blodgett two each.

The Cougars were 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the charity stripe and they had five 3-pointers, two from Mittlestadt, and one each from Parlin, Stevens, and Wilbur.

The Brewer Witches will be back in action Thursday, Dec. 26, at 6:30 p.m., when they host Messalonskee of Oakland.
