Brewer girls with a hard fought win over John Bapst in preseason tip off

BREWER – The Brewer girls basketball team hosted John Bapst in the second game of the Frederick "Smokey" Lawrence Memorial preseason tournament and had to fight from behind after the first half to capture a 24-20 win.

A low scoring game with some very solid defense from both teams. Each team had one player in double figures. Both teams played very hard from start to the final horn.

For Brewer, Senior Kathryn Austin led all scorers with 14 of the teams 24 points; Trea Broussard four; Kenzie Dore and Grace Robertson two each; and Brooke Merrow and Riley Umel one each.

The Witches were 4-of-12, (33 percent), from the foul line.

John Bapst did not have player's names available. The Crusaders were 9-of-16, (56 percent), from the charity stripe. They had two 3-point baskets.
