Red Riots pick up "Gift" win from John Bapst

ORONO - Friday afternoon at Orono High School, the Lady Red Riots hosted the John Bapst girls in the second meeting of the two field hockey teams in the last nine days. On September 11 they played to a double overtime scoreless tie at the University of Maine. On Friday it looked as if a repeat of game one was going to happen, but a "gift" from John Bapst allowed Orono to come away with a 1-0 victory.

After 59 plus minutes of game play, an Orono rally in front of the box led to the ball deflecting off of a John Bapst player to the back of the box giving credit to an Orono goal with 25.7 seconds left on the clock in regulation play. Orono held off a Crusaders attack the rest of the way to hang on to the win.
