Wildcats strong third quarter leads to victory over Glenburn boys

GLENBURN - The Wildcats of Lewis Libby Middle School in Milford got a combined 17 points from Braydon Brown (9) and Carson Ellis (8) in a 20-3 third quarter that led to a 48-45 victory over the Glenburn Chargers in a boys middle school basketball game on Thursday afternoon.

Glenburn out scored the Wildcats in every quarter except the third, which proved to be the deciding factor. The Chargers led 23-15 at half time, but Milford came out on fir in the third period. A 5-0 run to start the quarter pulled Milford to within three points at 23-20 with 5:36 left in the period. The Wildcats tied the game at 24-24 on a 9-1 run with 4:45 left on the clock, and took the lead (27-24) with just over three minutes left in the period. Milford held a 35-26 lead heading into the final period.

With 4:56 remaining in the game, Milford was on top 44-31 having out scored Glenburn 29-8 since the start of the third quarter.  Glenburn battled back with an 11-2 run to pull within four points at 46-42 with one minute left to play, but the Chargers would run out of time as they were not able to overcome the large third period deficit.

Brown scored a game high 25 points to pace the Wildcats, and Ellis added eight points. Logan Brown and Bryce Carey each had five points, Matt Brown scired three, and Jordan Craft chipped in with two points.

Milford had six 3-point baskets, three by Brown, two from Ellis, and one by Carey. They shot just 4-for-18 (22 percent) from the charity stripe.

Glenburn was led in scoring by Brandon Butterfield with 20 points and Ryan Guy with 11. Reese Kenney, Andrew Day, and Logan Burns each scored four points, and Tony Bisson added two points.

The Chargers had one 3-point basket by Kenney, and they went 10-for-22 (45 percent) from the free throw line.
