Maranacook freshmen finish strong to upend Oceanside

ROCKLAND – The Oceanside boys basketball program hosted Maranacook Community School of Readfield for three games Wednesday evening after they were snowed out Tuesday.

In the home opener, the two teams battled back and forth throughout the game with the Black Bears taking home the 71-65 win behind a strong fourth quarter.

Maranacook held the lead after each quarter, 21-13, 31-30 at the half, and 51-49 heading into the final stanza where they outscored the Mariners 20-16 to capture the win. Oceanside had three shots to tie the game in the last minute but was unable to convert.

Aiden Munro led the Mariners with 13 points; Zach Healey 12; Landdon Willis and Sam Miller nine each; Gavyn Tower seven; Drew Daggett six; Sam Vose four; Austin Pagano three; and Finnegan Lynch two. Oceanside was 10-of-23 from the foul line.

For Maranacook, Timmy Worster had a game-high 27 points; Wyatt Lambert 18; Isaian Barden 11; Joey Dupont 10; and Joe Albert five. The Black Bears were 10-of-16 from the foul line.

The Mariners will take the floor again tomorrow night, Thursday, Jan. 25 when they host Mount View of Thorndike with a game at 3:30 p.m.
