Maine Sports Report: Oceanside Little League playoffs underway with a couple of upsets

The Oceanside Little League baseball and softball playoffs got underway Saturday in Rockland, Thomaston and Tenants Harbor with a couple of upsets in baseball reported.

This morning at Gordon Field in Rockland No. 2 Fisher took on No. 7 Kiwanis who gave them a scare taking an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning only to have Fisher come back and claim a 9-8 win.

Fisher will host the No. 6 St. George Dragons who upset No. 3 Vinalhaven 14-4 on the island.

The upside of that loss by the Ravens is that they will now host Kiwanis at 9 a.m. on the island.

In the final game of the day in Thomaston, No. 4 Rotary hosted No. 5 Lions. Rotary had mercied the Lions twice during the regular season, but today was different and it belonged to the Lions who took home an 8-4 win.

With the win, the Lions will now face No. 1 Elks at 4 p.m. Sunday in Rockland at 4 p.m. Rotary will next play the loser of Sunday's Dragons and Fisher game. The Rotary game will be played on Wednesday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the highest seed.

In softball, I do not have scores, but No. 5 Coppola defeated No. 4 St. George Dragons and they will travel to Vinalhaven Sunday for an 11 a.m. game against No. 1 Islanders.

In the first game of the day, the No. 6 Glen Cove Dental had to forfeit to No. 3 Kenniston Machine due to the inability to field a full team. The Oceanside Middle School 8th Grade fun day at Fun Town was also today.

Kenniston will now play No. 2 George Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4 at George Hall Field in Rockland.
